Have you ever said, “Things will be great if I just had more hours in the day?” Are we ever going to get more hours in our day? I don’t think so. I think 24 hours is pretty much that. I’m Belinda Goodrich and this is my series on my top five productivity hacks. How do you get stuff done and feel good about your life?
Create a vision and find your purpose. As we move through our days, we’re doing so much for so many. Really understand, take the time, and be thoughtful about defining your purpose. What are your goals, your dreams, what is your vision for your life? Then measure everything that you’re doing against that. Does it align or is there an inconsistency? Once you know what your purpose is, your vision, your goal, then you can create some type of a visual, a logo maybe, some type of an image, maybe it’s a picture that represents your purpose in life, and it’s a great constant reminder of the things that you’re doing and do they align with that.
Let me give you an example – I’m a proud mother of three grown daughters and six grandchildren. For me as a woman, as a business owner entrepreneur, it’s important that my girls look at me as a leader, that I’m making them proud. So, I have a picture of my three daughters and my six grandchildren as my screen saver. I look at it frequently. It helps keep me grounded in what’s important. So on those days when I’m feeling overwhelmed, overworked, exhausted, feel like I can’t go on, I say, “Am I doing the things that will make them proud?”
A lot of times, I find that there are things that can come off of my list. I actually do a lot of things maybe not for my best interests, their best interests, sometimes it’s just killing time, sometimes it’s a misplaced sense of obligation so I always want to come back to that.
So, I would ask you, what is your purpose? What is your vision? What is your goal for life? What do you want your life to be? And then look at everything you do on a daily basis and ask yourself, “Does this align?” Productivity hack number one, find your purpose.
